Retirement planning is about much more than pensions, investments and tax.

It is about knowing when you have enough, deciding how you want to spend your time, helping the people you care about and making the most of the healthy years ahead.

Scott Gallacher has spent nearly 30 years helping people make those decisions.

Now he has brought many of those lessons together in one book.

50 Today 100 Tomorrow: Planning Your Money and Life for the Next 50 Years

A different kind of retirement book

Most retirement books start with money.

50 Today 100 Tomorrow starts with your life.

Enough matters more than more.

If you’re approaching retirement, you may already have pensions, investments and savings built up over many years.

But some of the most important questions are harder to answer:

  • How much is enough?
  • When could work become a choice rather than a necessity?
  • Am I still accumulating when I should be enjoying my wealth?
  • What experiences would I regret postponing?
  • How will I fill my 21 Boxes when work no longer fills them for me?
  • How can I help my family without compromising my own financial independence?
  • What do I really want to leave behind?

Scott’s 21 Boxes are a simple way of thinking about the seven mornings, seven afternoons and seven evenings in every week – and what might fill them when work no longer does.

Financial independence gives you choices. The harder question can be what you do with them.

These are some of the questions Scott explores in 50 Today 100 Tomorrow.

Who is 50 Today 100 Tomorrow for?

The book is particularly relevant if you are approaching or already enjoying retirement and have spent many years building pensions, investments or other financial resources.

It may be especially useful if you find yourself wondering:

  • Do I have enough?
  • Could I afford to work less – or stop altogether?
  • Am I being sensible with my money, or simply reluctant to spend it?
  • What do I want to do while I’m still fit and healthy enough to do it?
  • How do I turn financial independence into a life I actually want?
  • How much should I leave to my family – and how much should I enjoy myself?

Why is Rowley Turton giving the book away?

Because these are conversations we have with clients every day.

We believe financial planning should do more than help you build wealth. It should help you understand what your money is for, whether that means retiring earlier, helping your family, enjoying better holidays, or simply feeling confident that you are on track.

50 Today 100 Tomorrow introduces many of the ideas behind that approach.

There is no obligation to become a client. If the book helps you think differently about your money and make decisions with greater confidence, it has done its job.

We want as many people as possible to benefit from those ideas, which is why we are offering a complimentary copy. If you would like an additional copy, or know someone who might benefit from reading it, 50 Today 100 Tomorrow is also available to buy on Amazon.

And if it raises questions about your own plans, we are here if you would like to talk.

About Scott Gallacher

Scott Gallacher is a Chartered Financial Planner and director of Rowley Turton.

He joined the firm in 1997 and has spent nearly three decades helping individuals, families and business owners navigate retirement, pensions, investments, inheritance, bereavement and major life transitions.

Over the years, he has become increasingly interested in the human side of financial planning – not simply how people accumulate wealth, but how they decide when they have enough and how they use that wealth to create freedom, confidence and opportunity.

Scott regularly comments on financial matters in the national media and previously served as technical editor for the UK edition of Personal Finance For Dummies.

After being featured in numerous publications, such as The Times, The Telegraph and FT Adviser, Scott has published his first book 50 Today 100 Tomorrow.

Why did Scott write the book?

“I originally expected to write a book about financial planning. As I began putting nearly 30 years of experience onto paper, I realised it was really about something much bigger: how we use money to make the most of our lives.

“I spend a surprising amount of my working day encouraging clients to spend money rather than save more of it. Many have spent decades doing exactly the right things – working hard, saving, investing and living within their means.

“Eventually, however, there comes a point when accumulating more isn’t necessarily the answer. The challenge becomes having the confidence to enjoy what you’ve built while knowing that your future remains secure. That’s what 50 Today 100 Tomorrow is really about.”
